Aloha,

 

My name is Matt Okahata and I am a Hawaii-based artist.  Born and raised in Honolulu, I spent most of my time outdoors - hiking, camping, fishing, and surfing, taking advantage of the year-round beautiful climate that Hawaii has to offer.  

 

I have a curiosity for the world and love to travel, staying close to the rural areas where life is simple.  Traveling has opened my eyes, piqued my curiosity, and continues to challenge my perceptions of the world.  I have learned a lot about myself and I dedicate each day towards awareness, helping others, and being a better me.

 

While my art has strong Hawaii influences, it is also a reflection of all of the experiences I have had around the world.  I believe that art is one of many windows to a soul and I appreciate the opportunity to share with you, my soul, my thoughts, and my perceptions of the world.

The art you see is a combination of woodblock, monoprinting, intalio, and screenprinting.  All pieces are originals since I print them myself.  On occasion I make frames for my artwork using mahogany, ipe, cherry, and white oak.
